Monday, August 31 was the first day of the 2026–27 school year, and Qiaotou made a morning of it.
The new children drew their own wish cards — the ones now hanging on the little tree by the registration desk — and had their photo taken with the principal and the chair of the parents’ association. Then came the games: a slam-dunk station and a leaping-carp station, which is the kind of obstacle course where you are through it before you have had time to be nervous about a new school.
The same morning carried a Grandparents’ Week celebration, a book given to every new child, a parents’ meeting and a health talk. It is a lot to fit into one day, and that is deliberate: a first day should feel like a place worth coming back to on the second.
Thank you to Chairman Liu Ming-chin and his wife for coming to welcome the new children, and to the whole teaching team for putting the morning together. Let us walk alongside these children while they grow.
