Three Days with De La Salle

On December 8th, ChungShih welcomed a delegation of eight students and their teacher from De La Salle University – Dasmariñas Senior High School in the Philippines. This marked the second consecutive year that students from the Filipino school have visited Taiwan for this cultural and academic exchange — the exchange is now an annual tradition.

During a warm welcoming ceremony, the visiting teacher shared details about their high school and expressed a keen interest in Taiwanese culture and education, and Principal Chen emphasized the value of the experience for all students. Following the ceremony, ChungShih teachers and students led the guests on a campus tour, highlighting the unique features and vocational programs offered at the school. The visiting students were later paired with Taiwanese host families to ensure a deeper cultural immersion.

12 月 8 日，崇實高工歡迎來自菲律賓德拉薩大學達斯馬里尼亞斯校區高中部的八名學生及其老師組成的代表團。這已經是該校學生連續第二年來台進行文化與學術交流——這項交流如今已成為每年的傳統。

在熱情的歡迎儀式上，來訪老師介紹了該校的概況，並表達對台灣文化與教育的濃厚興趣；陳校長則強調這次經驗對兩校學生的價值。儀式結束後，崇實的師生帶領來賓參觀校園，介紹學校的特色與各科職業課程。來訪學生隨後與台灣的寄宿家庭配對，以獲得更深入的文化體驗。

The second day focused on practical skills and collaboration, with two activities arranged for the Taiwanese and Filipino students together.

The morning began with a workshop in the electrical engineering department — the musical spinning top project. Students learned about circuit boards and the essentials of soldering. Although the task was challenging, they worked together to successfully complete the electronic device.

Next the focus shifted to chemistry, with a DIY hand sanitizer activity. Students learned basic chemical principles to create a highly practical product: preparing a polymer gel solution, neutralizing it with a sodium hydroxide solution, and finally adding alcohol for the sanitizing effect. The finished spinning tops and hand sanitizers were taken home as souvenirs.

The afternoon offered a chance to unwind. Students from both schools bonded over sports, playing volleyball and badminton, and joined the taekwondo team for an introductory lesson in the martial art.

第二天的重點是實作技能與合作，為台菲兩校學生安排了兩項活動。

上午從電機科的實作開始——音樂陀螺專題。學生認識電路板，也學到焊接的基本要領。雖然任務並不簡單，兩校學生還是合力完成了這個電子作品。

接著轉往化工科，進行 DIY 乾洗手的活動。學生學習基本的化學原理，做出一項非常實用的產品：先調製高分子膠體溶液，以氫氧化鈉溶液中和，最後加入酒精達到消毒效果。完成的陀螺與乾洗手，都被帶回去當作紀念品。

下午則是放鬆的時間。兩校學生一起打排球和羽球，也加入跆拳道隊上了一堂入門課。

The final day was dedicated to cultural immersion and connection. The morning began with a traditional Chinese calligraphy class, practiced by students from both schools together. Beyond being a beautiful form of artistic expression, calligraphy served as a unique method for calming the mind and fostering character development.

Next, the group took a walk through the local area to learn about the unique characteristics of Yuanlin. Local students served as guides, introducing the Filipino visitors to the history and significance behind specific landmarks and shops in the city, and everyone visited a historical site.

The afternoon featured a lively campus challenge, with teams completing tasks at checkpoints across the school. It helped the Filipino students find their way around, and more importantly it let all the students build friendships through fun collaborative challenges.

The three days culminated in a closing ceremony. Although the exchange was short, both sides established strong bonds of friendship through shared activities and mutual learning — and both now look forward to meeting again next March, in the Philippines.

最後一天的主題是文化沉浸與情感連結。上午從傳統書法課開始，兩校學生一起練字。書法不只是優美的藝術表現，也是一種安定心神、涵養品格的獨特方式。

接著，一行人走訪校園周邊，認識員林的特色。由本校學生擔任導覽，向菲律賓來賓介紹城裡特定地標與店家的歷史與意義，並一同參觀了一處古蹟。

下午是熱鬧的校園闖關，各隊要在校內不同關卡完成任務。這個活動一方面讓菲律賓學生更熟悉校園，更重要的是讓所有學生在有趣的合作挑戰中建立友誼。

三天的行程以閉幕式畫下句點。交流的時間雖短，雙方卻在共同的活動與彼此的學習中，建立了深厚的友誼——兩校都期待明年三月在菲律賓再相見。
