Space Scouts, Beidou Junior High's new bilingual astronomy program, held its very first lesson on Thursday, October 22, 2026. In the school's computer lab, the scouts — chosen through interviews at the start of the semester — connected live with Teacher Shannon Braden in Los Angeles, USA, who uses space to get students speaking English.
北斗國中新開辦的雙語天文課程「天文與太空雙語科普小尖兵培訓計畫」，於 2026 年 10 月 22 日（四）在電腦教室舉行第一堂課。經過學期初面試選出的小尖兵們，與來自美國洛杉磯的 Shannon Braden 老師線上即時連線——Shannon 老師用太空主題，讓孩子們開口說英文。
Shannon set the tone from the very first minute:
Shannon 老師一開場就為這堂課定下基調：
“We like to relax, and we like to make mistakes, okay? It's okay. That's what we like to do.”「我們喜歡放輕鬆，也喜歡犯錯，好嗎？沒關係，這就是我們喜歡做的事。」— Teacher Shannon Braden · Shannon 老師
Then everyone introduced themselves in English — name, favorite color, favorite food. Shannon's favorite color is blue and her favorite food is pizza; one scout's answer stole the show: “My favorite color is black, because I think that is… astronomy's color.”
接著大家輪流用英文自我介紹：名字、最喜歡的顏色、最喜歡的食物。Shannon 老師最喜歡藍色和披薩；而一位學員的回答最令人印象深刻：「我最喜歡的顏色是黑色，因為我覺得，那是天文的顏色。」
Next came the word bank. From Mercury to the Moon and the stars, the scouts said every space word out loud. Then each scout chose a target to explore with one sentence — “I want to learn about…” Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, the Sun, the Moon and the stars all made the list.
接下來是太空單字時間：從水星一路到月亮和星星，學員把每個單字都大聲說出來。最後，每位小尖兵用一句「I want to learn about…（我想了解……）」選出自己想探索的目標——木星、火星、土星、天王星、太陽、月亮和星星，全都榜上有名。
After their training, the Space Scouts will become young science guides, sharing what they have learned about space with elementary school students — in both English and Chinese.
完成培訓後，小尖兵們將化身小小科普解說員，用中英雙語把太空知識分享給國小的學弟妹。
