From a country sub-branch to the rooted small school of Erlin

Siangtian Elementary School began in 1953 as a sub-branch of Erlin Elementary, meeting in a village hall in Siangtian Village. In 1963 it became a school of its own. Today it remains a small rural campus — small enough that every child is known by name.

When a typhoon destroyed the teacher dormitory beside the school road, we did not rebuild. We turned that ground into a rice paddy. Each year, our students plant and harvest two seasons of Koshihikari rice with a local mill — the same rice that, in 1980, made Erlin famous as Taiwan's home of Koshihikari. The fields are not next to school. The fields are the school.

香田國小起源於民國 42 年（1953）的「二林國校香田分班」，在民眾集會所開課；民國 52 年（1963）獨立設校。今日香田仍是一所迷你型偏鄉小校——小，意味著每一個孩子都被認得、被看見。

校門口馬路旁的教師宿舍被颱風吹倒後，校方決定不重建，改闢為水稻生態田，與在地碾米廠合作，種植一年兩期的越光米。1980 年，二林鎮成為全台越光米栽培成功的起點，被譽為「越光米的故鄉」——對香田的孩子而言，農田不在校園旁，農田就是校園。

Koshihikari Rice Country 越光米的故鄉

Erlin Township is the place in Taiwan where Japan's prized Koshihikari rice was first successfully grown, in 1980. At Siangtian, that local pride is in the curriculum: each year, our children plant and harvest two seasons of Koshihikari with a local rice mill, in a paddy that used to be a teacher's dormitory. From seedling to bowl, the story belongs to them.

二林鎮是 1980 年全台首次成功栽培越光米的地方，被譽為「越光米的故鄉」。香田國小把這份在地驕傲搬進課表——每年，孩子與在地碾米廠合作，於校內水稻生態田插秧、收割，種出一年兩期的越光米。從一株秧苗到一碗飯，故事屬於他們。

Buckwheat & Natural Grass 蕎麥花海與天然草皮

Step outside Siangtian's gate in winter and you walk into a sea of white buckwheat blooms; in summer, the silk-floss "beauty trees" line the road in pink. Inside, our running track is real, living grass — a rarity among Taiwanese schools today. The seasons aren't decoration. They are part of how our children learn what a year means.

冬日步出香田的校門，是一望無際的蕎麥花海；夏日，路旁的美人樹開滿粉紫花朵。校內的跑道仍鋪著天然草皮——在今日台灣校園裡已屬少數。對香田的孩子而言，季節不只是背景，是他們認識「一年」的真實節奏。

Two Seasons of Koshihikari 越光米水稻 ─ 一年兩期

Every year, our children walk into the school paddy in spring to plant and again in autumn to harvest. The grain is hulled at a local mill and finds its way back into our school lunch — one rice, one school, one full circle.

每年春天，孩子走進校內水稻田插秧；秋天，再回來收割。稻穀送到在地碾米廠處理後，回到學校的營養午餐裡——一種米、一所學校、一個完整的循環。

The School That Blooms 會開花的校園

Two seasons paint the school: white buckwheat fields in winter, pink silk-floss "beauty trees" in summer. Field trips do not need a bus — just a walk to the school gate, and a teacher who can name what is in bloom.

兩個季節為校園上色：冬天的蕎麥白花田、夏天的美人樹粉紫花。戶外教學不必搭車——走到校門口，老師指著正在綻放的花朵，課就上了。

Weekly English, Made for Us 每週英語 ─ 為小校量身打造

Each week, our students meet a new English sentence on the school site. Built with My Culture Connect, the Weekly English corner is the small but steady door through which an English-speaking world walks into our country classrooms.

每週，孩子在學校網站上認識一句新英文。由人師教育協會（My Culture Connect）共同建置的「每週英語」是一道小而穩定的門——讓英語的世界，慢慢走進這所農村小校。

Small School, Big Family 小校大家庭

No one in our building is a stranger. Older grades read with younger ones, the principal knows every parent's name, and the village's elders watch the rice paddy from across the road. A school the size of a household, raising children the size of a town.

校園裡沒有陌生人。高年級陪低年級閱讀，校長叫得出每一位家長的名字，村裡長輩會在馬路另一頭看著校內的水稻田。一所家庭規模的學校，培養出整個村莊的孩子。
