Changhua County holds the richest, most complete collection of Beiguan music and opera anywhere in Taiwan — and this June, that living heritage came straight to the Luoqing gym. The County Cultural Affairs Bureau brought a campus outreach program built around one simple idea: let children meet the music with their own eyes and ears.

Veteran musicians sat in a circle on stage, working through gongs, cymbals, and suona horns one instrument at a time — explaining what each one does in a Beiguan ensemble, and how the rhythms fit together to tell a story.

The visit wasn't just watching — students called back rhythms, tried gestures along with the beat, and were invited to picture themselves one day playing in the circle themselves.
An open door into Beiguan.
The program ended with an open invitation: any student curious about the gongs and cymbals is welcome to join Luoqing's own after-school Beiguan club.
