Yude Elementary School sits in Outer Bamboo Village (外竹里), in the southern reach of Erlin Township — Taiwan's largest buckwheat-growing region. The school began as a branch of Zhongzheng Elementary in 1959, and became independent in August 1970. After more than half a century, eleven principals, and countless harvests, we remain a school that knows each child by name.
育德國小位於二林鎮外竹里——全台最大蕎麥產區的南端。1959 年從 中正國小外竹分班教室起步,1970 年 8 月正式獨立設校。半世紀、十一任校長、無數蕎麥收成之後,我們仍然是一所「每個孩子都叫得出名字」的小學校。
Our six classrooms hold around 60 children. Our teacher-to-student ratio is 1:4.8. And in a county where most rural schools shrink each year, Yude has grown 23.5 % in student numbers — a quiet vote of confidence from the families of Outer Bamboo and beyond.

Four signature curricula carry every Yude child through six years — one for the arts, one for the page, one for the village, one for the table.

Few rural schools of six classes can field a saxophone ensemble. We can. Our students learn ocarina, ukulele, keyboard, saxophone, drawing, calligraphy, and dance — and every other year, their work fills the walls of the Erlin Township Library for the Soaring Arts Exhibition. 很少有 6 班規模的偏鄉小校能組起薩克斯風樂團——育德可以。孩子們從陶笛、烏克麗麗、鍵盤樂器、薩克斯風、繪畫、書法到舞蹈都學,每兩年一次的「藝翔天開」師生美展,更把孩子們的作品掛上二林鎮立圖書館的牆。
Amanda joined Yude in September 2024, bringing a theatre-trained ear and a culture-first classroom. A graduate of East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's in Drama, and certified in both TEFL and TESOL, she teaches English through story, performance, and the small daily conversations that make English feel like a real way to be in the world.
