Why Music Stays at Yangming
Music programs at junior-highs across Taiwan have come and gone with funding cycles, principal changes, and shifting curriculum priorities. Yangming's two ensembles have outlasted all of that — partly because the parents in central Changhua have always sent their children expecting that the school still teaches things that cannot be tested, and partly because, year after year, students have taken up the harmonica or the erhu simply because their older siblings did.
You can hear it in November, when the school welcomes international guests; in May, when the music elective showcases its term work; and on quieter afternoons, drifting from a third-floor practice room into the courtyard outside.
