About Our School

A Small School That Grew From a Village Branch

One small school, two villages, sixty-plus years of quiet work

Wenchang Elementary sits in Zhenping Village, in the southern part of Fuxing Township — a corner of Changhua County better known for its watermelons than its skylines. Our school serves children from two villages, Zhenping and Sanhe, and has done so as an independent school since 1959.

Today we are one of Changhua's smaller elementary schools, and that smallness is part of who we are: every teacher knows every child by name, and every child is part of every story the school tells.

文昌國小座落於福興鄉鎮平村，是彰化縣西南角一所以西瓜田聞名的鄉村小學。學區涵蓋鎮平村與三和村兩個聚落，從 1959 年獨立設校以來，已陪伴一代又一代的鎮平孩子走過小學六年。

我們是彰化縣相對小型的學校，這份「小」也正是我們的特色——每位老師都認識每個孩子，校園裡發生的每件事，每個孩子都會在場。

Children of the Watermelon Fields 西瓜田裡的孩子

Zhenping Village is the heart of Fuxing Township's watermelon country. Every summer, trucks pull up to fields right beside our campus to load melons for markets all over Taiwan. Our school has turned that geography into a curriculum: a food-and-farm education program brings the watermelon — from seed, to soil, to lunchbox — into the classroom. Even our playground says it out loud: a giant watermelon-shaped slide that has become the school's best-known landmark.

鎮平村是福興鄉西瓜產地的核心。每到夏天，大卡車就停在校園邊的田裡，把整顆整顆的西瓜送往全台市場。文昌國小把這片地理變成了課程——「食農教育計畫」帶孩子從種子、土壤一路認識到餐桌上的西瓜。連校園裡都把這件事說得很大聲：那座大家都記得的西瓜造型溜滑梯，就是我們最廣為人知的地標。

A Small School Setting Sail 小校揚帆，走向國際

Wenchang has been recognized by Changhua County as a "Setting Sail School" (揚帆學校) in international education — the framework Taiwan's Ministry of Education uses for schools that move beyond classroom textbooks and into real international exchange. Our students have already taken part in online cross-cultural exchanges with peers abroad. For a village school of our size, that is not a small thing — it is the whole point.

文昌國小通過彰化縣領航學校認證，取得「課程教學－國際教育／揚帆學校」級別——這是教育部國際教育架構中，給走出教科書、進入真實國際交流的學校的等級。我們的孩子已經參與過跨國線上文化交流活動。對一所這樣規模的鄉村小學來說，這不是小事——這正是「揚帆」這個名字最想表達的事。

Hands That Make Robots 動手做機器人的孩子

Tradition in one hand, circuit boards in the other. Wenchang runs a robotics design course and seasonal robotics camps, giving rural-village children the same hands-on STEM experience that bigger urban schools take for granted. It is the kind of program that quietly answers a hard question: in 2026, what does "elementary education" even mean? — we think it means watermelons and robots, both grown in the same school.

一手是傳統、一手是電路板。文昌國小開設了機器人設計課程與機器人營隊，讓鄉村學校的孩子也擁有都市學校熟悉的 STEM 動手經驗。這樣的課程其實悄悄地回答了一個不太好答的問題：2026 年的「小學教育」應該長什麼樣子？——我們認為，是西瓜，也是機器人，兩者一起在同一所學校長大。

The watermelon and sweet-potato fields begin right at the school fence, so Wenchang turned them into a classroom. Children plant, dig, harvest, and finally taste what they grew — learning where real food comes from. 西瓜與地瓜田就從校園圍籬邊開始，文昌索性把田變成教室。孩子親手種、親手挖、親手收，最後嘗到自己種出來的滋味——真正認識食物從哪裡來。

從西瓜田裡長出來的吉祥物

Our mascots grow straight out of the fields around school — watermelon, sweet potato, garden greens, and blossom — each one wearing the Wenchang school badge. They are how a small farming village says hello to the world. 文昌娃娃從校園邊的田裡長出來——西瓜、地瓜、青蔬、花朵，每一隻肚子上都帶著文昌校徽。這是一個小農村，向世界打招呼的方式。

As part of being a Setting Sail school, Wenchang has run online cross-cultural exchange sessions connecting our students with classrooms abroad. For a village school on Fuxing's watermelon fields, the conversation that begins as "My name is…" ends, three meetings later, as a real conversation about lives lived very far apart.
作為揚帆學校的一環，文昌已實際辦過跨國線上文化交流，讓孩子與國外教室對話。對一所福興西瓜田裡的鄉村小學來說，那個從 "My name is…" 開始的對話，三次見面之後，會變成一段關於彼此生活的真實交流。

Alongside taekwondo, weiqi, and inline skating, English-language contests are one of the competition areas the school specifically features — putting our students' English to work outside the classroom, on a stage where it has to be heard.
