Mr. Jov — Jovanni Rafols Aniban — is Minsheng's full-time foreign English teacher and a graduate of the University of the Philippines. He coaches our English Club, runs the English Village high-speed-rail-station roleplays, leads Halloween classroom teaching, and hosts our sister-school online exchanges with classmates in Indonesia and India. He lives in the corridors as much as he lives in the classroom — which is exactly why students remember the English he uses.
Jov 老師是民生駐校的全職外籍英語教師,畢業於菲律賓最高學府菲律賓大學(University of the Philippines)。他帶英語俱樂部(讀者劇場去年第 3、今年進步到第 2)、英語村高鐵站角色扮演、萬聖節教學,並主持與印尼 Newton Global School、印度的姊妹校線上文化交流。他走在走廊上的時間,跟在教室裡的時間一樣多——這正是孩子們會記住他英語的原因。

Down at the school level, the English Resource Center turns the two outer "hats" into something a six-year-old can actually walk through. There's an English Village — a simulated bilingual environment on campus (high-speed-rail station, market, restaurant scenes) where younger students do their first roleplay before they ever leave the building. There's an annual cycle of storytelling and English speech contests, an English Reading King (Cool English) club, and the SMART school-wide curriculum — Science, Math, Art, Reading, Technology — through which English is woven into subjects, not isolated as one.
在校內層級,英語資源中心把上面兩頂「帽子」,變成六歲孩子可以真正走進去的東西。我們有英語村——一個校內的模擬雙語環境(高鐵站、市集、餐廳情境)。我們有外籍英語教師 Jovanni Rafols Aniban(Jov 老師)——他活在走廊上的時間,跟在教室裡的時間一樣多。我們有年度循環的英語說故事比賽、Cool English 英閱王校隊、以及貫穿全校的 SMART 校本課程——科學、數學、藝術、閱讀、科技——讓英語融入學科,而不是被孤立成「另外一堂課」。
The point is not to turn every child into a native speaker. The point is that by the time a Minsheng student leaves grade 6, English will have stopped feeling like a class subject and started feeling like one of the natural sounds of school.
這一切的目標,不是要把每個孩子都變成英語母語者。目標是——當一個民生孩子六年級畢業時,英語對他而言,已經不再像是「一個科目」,而像是「校園裡眾多自然聲音之一」。
