A school that carries sixty years of history — and builds the next sixty with code and curiosity.
Huatan Junior High sits at the foot of Baguashan in Huatan Township — a place long famous as Taiwan's brick-kiln hometown. The same red clay that built generations of homes now fires a different kind of ambition: a school that blends tradition with technology, community with competition.
Founded in 1961, Huatan JHS has sent more than 20,000 graduates into the world. Today, under Principal Tu Ming-hsiu, the school runs one of the county's few junior-high AIoT Science & Technology Centers, fields a powerhouse track-and-field team with national qualifiers, and has earned the Ministry of Education's Reading Cornerstone Award, Character Education Featured School distinction, and Arts Education Contribution Award, along with the KDP Curriculum Leadership Award and Changhua County's Five-Star Flagship School certification. Every pillar of the school grows from the same soil: a belief that a small-township school can do big things.
The same township that fired bricks for a generation now shapes students who build with algorithms, run national-level races, and speak in two — sometimes three — languages. That is Huatan.
Eleven principals, one township, six decades of growing up together.

A bell-shaped crest, ringing the same call across eleven principals.

The crest takes the shape of a bell: six blocks below for six years of elementary school, three lines above for three years of junior high, nine studs around the rim for nine years of compulsory education. Inside, two archaic characters read "中華" — 華, an old form of 花 (hua) — a quiet pun on the school's own name, Huatan. Its founders hoped the sound of education, like a bell, could travel far.
Since the 2019 school year, that bell has carried three more layers of meaning — a framework every principal since has carried forward.

Established in 2019, the AIoT Center offers hands-on courses in machine learning, IoT sensors, generative AI, and robotics — open to both students and visiting schools across the county.

With multiple athletes qualifying for the National Junior High Games each year, Huatan's track team is one of Changhua's strongest. Record-breakers, champions, and future Olympians train here.

Since 1988, Huatan has run a technical skills program producing national champions in electrical assembly, painting, and CAD. Graduates go on to top engineering universities — and come back to give.
