Principal Tu Ming-hsiu has led Huatan Junior High through back-to-back national honors: the Ministry of Education's Character Education School Award in 2024, followed by its Arts Education Contribution Award for outstanding schools in 2025. Rather than treat art as an elective, she has woven it into daily life through five signature courses rooted in local culture — from brick-kiln aesthetics and lantern-parade artistry to Taiwanese opera, Indigenous heritage, and folk verse.

凃明秀校長帶領花壇國中連續拿下兩項全國殊榮：2024 年教育部「品德特色學校」，緊接著在 2025 年榮獲「藝術教育貢獻獎績優學校獎」。對她而言，藝術從來不是額外的課程，而是融入日常的養分——她打造了五大在地特色課程：磚窯美感、燈排藝術、歌仔戲曲、原民文化，以及答喙鼓文學。

Under her leadership, the school also completed the renovation of the English Village classroom with the hands-on help of a proud alumnus — and local parents who gave their time and skill to save the school over a million New Taiwan dollars. Principal Tu sees in that story exactly what she hopes to nurture: a school that gives back and keeps giving.

在她任內，學校也完成了英語國際村教室的翻新整修，背後是一位優秀校友、熱心家長義務出工出料的心意——這正是凃校長念茲在茲的核心：一所懂得感恩、懂得回饋的學校。

That spirit of second chances runs deep at Huatan. The school's drum team began as a way to draw at-risk students back into the fold — today it's one of the most sought-after performance groups on campus and in the community. Alumna Chen Yi-ju, once a Huatan student herself, now trains with Taiwan's national team for the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games after winning silver at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games in competitive breaking.

這份「不放棄」的精神，深深根植在花壇國中。戰鼓社原本是為了喚回中輟生而成立的表演團體，如今已成為校園與社區中最搶手的鼓藝樂團。傑出校友陳怡茹畢業自花壇國中，在 Breaking（霹靂舞）國際舞台屢創佳績——2023 年杭州亞運奪銀，現正備戰2026 年名古屋亞運國家代表隊。

Technical education shines just as bright. In the 2025 National Skills Competition, Huatan's painting-and-decorating team won the gold medal — the only junior high in Taiwan to do so — following a clean sweep of gold, silver, bronze, and fourth place the year before.

技藝教育同樣亮眼。在 114 年全國技能競賽中，花壇國中的漆作裝潢選手勇奪金牌——全國唯一獲獎的國中，延續前一年包辦金、銀、銅及第四名的佳績。
