A Date with the Principal

A Date with the Principal

This term's “A Date with the Principal” for fifth- and sixth-graders opened at a lively Friday lunchtime. For the sixth-graders, this was not just a chat, but their last warm gathering with the principal before graduation.

The children listened quietly to a story — and to the lessons hidden within it. It told of a down-on-his-luck young man who meets a deaf-mute elder; from strangers to gradual friendship, the young man slowly changes his heart. When he finally chooses to become someone willing to give, someone with warmth inside, his once-heavy steps grow light. The principal encouraged the children: change your mindset, change the way you speak and treat others, and everyone can slowly become a better person.

The sixth-graders will soon graduate and leave campus. May they all treasure their days with teachers and classmates, and every encounter and word of guidance — for years later, these elementary memories may quietly become the strength that helped them grow up. May we all think good thoughts, speak kind words, and do good deeds — and keep meeting a better version of ourselves along the way.
