Ershui Elementary has reached a remarkable milestone: over 125 years of teaching the children of this small canal town. Founded in the Japanese-colonial era and grown into the central elementary school of Ershui Township, the school today celebrates its anniversary with a dedicated feature on its official website — a chance for generations of alumni, from grandparents to grandchildren, to look back on a campus that has shaped the whole community.
二水國小走到了一個非凡的里程碑：創校 125 年，陪伴這座水圳小鎮一代又一代的孩子。學校創立於日治時期，後來成為二水鄉的中心國小，如今在官網設立「125 週年校慶專區」歡慶這個日子——讓從祖父母到孫輩的歷屆校友，一同回望這座形塑了整個社區的校園。
Reading runs deep at Ershui — all the way back to the Chinese classics. In the school-wide Classics Recitation Grand Exam, students who recited their passages flawlessly earned the title of "Full Crown" (滿冠王), while many more reached the achievement standard. It is a tradition that builds memory, patience, and a love of language — the same skills students now stretch into English, too.
二水的閱讀底蘊很深，一路追溯到中華經典。在全校性的「經典大會考」中，能完整無誤背誦篇章的學生獲得「滿冠王」的榮譽，更有許多人達到「達標」門檻。這項傳統培養了記憶力、耐心與對語言的熱愛——而這些能力，學生如今也延伸運用到英語學習上。
Each year, the Mr. Tsai Ching-yang Education Award and Scholarship honors Ershui students for their effort and progress. Endowed by a local benefactor, the award is a quiet reminder that a small town looks after its own — encouraging children not only to do well, but to keep improving, year after year. Recipients are celebrated on the school's honor board.
每年，「蔡慶陽先生教育獎」與獎學金都會表揚二水學子的努力與進步。這份由在地善心人士捐贈的獎項，靜靜地提醒著大家：小鎮會照顧自己的孩子——鼓勵學生不只要表現優異，更要年復一年持續進步。獲獎者的名字會登上學校的榮譽榜。
In a township built on rice and the waters of the Bābǎo Canal, it is only natural that Ershui students learn where their food comes from. The school's Food & Farming Education program takes children out of the classroom and into the soil — planting, tending, and harvesting — so that lessons about nutrition, the land, and gratitude all grow from the same ground. The program is featured in its own bilingual video.
在一個以稻米和八堡圳之水立足的鄉鎮，二水的孩子學習「食物從哪裡來」再自然不過。學校的「食農教育」課程把孩子帶出教室、走進泥土——播種、照顧、收成——讓關於營養、土地與感恩的學習，全都從同一片土地長出來。這項課程也製作成專屬的雙語影片。
Working with My Culture Connect, Ershui has built a growing Word of the Day video library — 43 everyday words, from "Taiko drum" to "tug-of-war," each with two example sentences. Just as striking: from the principal and teachers to the youngest students, the entire Ershui family has recorded English self-introductions — a campus-wide show of courage that turns shy smiles into real spoken English.

Some lessons are written in stone. In 1940, during a school outing to the Bābǎo Canal, young teacher Asai Hatsuko leapt into the water to save a drowning student — and gave her own life in the attempt. She was just 30. Generations later, her memorial still stands on campus, its inscription reading "a teacher's grace flows on forever" (師恩永垂) — a story of devotion that Ershui carries to this day.
有些課，是刻在石頭上的。1940 年，在一次前往八堡圳的學校遠足中，年輕的淺井初子老師為了搶救落水的學生，縱身躍入水中——卻在營救過程中獻出了自己的生命，年僅 30 歲。多個世代之後，她的紀念碑仍矗立校園，碑上題著「師恩永垂」——這是一個關於奉獻的故事，二水至今仍細細傳頌。
