Each day of the Summer Science Camp has been more exciting than the last! Over these two days, the children became junior scientists, taking on two amazing hands-on science challenges.
Making Fire by Friction
The children tried the age-old method of creating heat through friction, feeling for themselves the wisdom behind how ancient people made fire. Through trial and error, they built up patience and problem-solving skills.
The Mendocino Motor
By combining solar power, magnetism, and electric current, the children made a small motor spin as if by magic — learning about energy conversion and the basics of electromagnetism, and feeling the wonder of science in action.
Through hands-on building, careful observation, and discussion with each other, the children discovered that science is really all around them in everyday life. Every bit of exploring brought its own surprise, and every success brought its own sense of achievement.
