Dayuan Elementary took on Changhua County's "International Education Center Little Bilingual Tour Guide Training Program," leading children out of the classroom and into the community. Through a mix of bilingual learning, local culture, and real, on-site guiding practice, the program is helping children build the confidence to introduce their hometown in English — starting from knowing their own land, and walking, step by step, toward the wider world.

Stop 1 — Fengze Community, the Shi-Er Regeneration Park
The children stepped into the story-filled Shi-Er Regeneration Park to see how a community can bring an unused space back to life. Through the park's signature piece — an old pig path turned into public art — they learned about local history and the creativity behind community regeneration. From that one old path, the children saw a community's effort to preserve its history while giving it new life, and practiced telling their hometown's story in simple English along the way.
Stop 2 — Xihu Sugar Refinery
Next, the children explored the nostalgic Xihu Sugar Refinery, discovering a hundred years of sugar-industry heritage — old refinery buildings, railway culture, and the history of the "five-cent train" — and even got to ride the refinery's own vintage narrow-gauge train! Free to enter, the park is home to a beloved old locomotive for train fans, historic sugar-processing buildings, and green space and sweet treats perfect for families. As the children explored, they practiced turning the English they'd learned in class into real conversations about the world around them.
Through repeated hands-on visits and bilingual practice, the children aren't just "learning English" — they're learning to observe, express themselves, cooperate, and share. We can't wait to see these brave little tour guides introduce Changhua — and their hometown — to more people, with a confident smile and simple, clear English.
