This summer, our English camp took its classroom all the way to Taoyuan International Airport. Students travelled up by high-speed rail — learning how to move as a group and how to behave on public transport along the way — and arrived buzzing with anticipation for the missions waiting for them.
At the airport the children became young reporters. Their mission list was simple to read and brave to do: walk up to travellers from other countries and say hello; introduce yourself in English and hold a short interview; ask where they are from, whether they like Taiwan, and what their favourite Taiwanese food is; then record every successful conversation on the mission sheet.
Some were shy at first. With their teachers cheering them on, one by one they worked up the courage to speak. Travellers answered warmly, shared their stories patiently, and many happily posed for a photo — and you could see the sense of achievement written all over the children's faces.
After the airport missions the group headed to Xpark, the urban aquarium in Taoyuan. Close-up observation and bilingual information boards introduced them to all kinds of marine life — penguins, jellyfish and rays drew gasps of delight — and gave them a deeper understanding of ocean ecology. The immersive exhibits were not only great fun; they also brought home why the SDGs matter.
Through real conversations and a trip beyond the school gate, the children learned four things worth keeping: English is not knowledge locked inside a textbook but a bridge to the world; speaking up bravely matters more than speaking perfectly; every exchange is a start on confidence and a wider view of the world; and stepping outside the classroom makes learning come alive.
Our thanks go to every international traveller who kindly agreed to be interviewed, and to all the teachers who accompanied and supported the children throughout. The camp closed with laughter, challenges and a great deal gained — and we hope the children carried home not only happy memories, but the confidence to speak English out loud and the courage to explore the world.

20 May is World Bee Day — and, as it happens, 520 is also Tianzhong's postal code. Our guest instructor is a Tianzhong local too. With that many coincidences, the day was clearly meant to be about bees.
Class 5-2 set off for the career exploration centre at Datong Junior High School for a session titled "Let's Unlock the Honey — the beguiling craft of three generations of beekeepers." We are very grateful to instructor Chen Wei-nien, who led the children into the extraordinary world of the honeybee.
A diagram of a bee's body opened the lesson: compound eyes that read shape and colour and even track the sun, antennae for touch and smell, the sting that is really a modified egg-laying tube, and the pollen basket on the hind leg. A real hive frame — bees and all — sat on the bench beside the screen. Later the children took turns bottling honey themselves, tipping the jars slowly and carefully.
"So this is what a beekeeper's day is really like!" Under the instructor's vivid explanations, the children not only learned about bee ecology, they came to appreciate the wisdom of a beekeeper living alongside nature. Everyone listened intently, eyes lighting up.
Thank you to the Datong career exploration centre for such an excellent learning space, and to instructor Chen Wei-nien for sharing so generously — giving the children the sweetest and most memorable career lesson, well outside the classroom.

Here come the highlights! Our international education programme shone on English Day.
The best part of the day: our sixth-graders became "junior English station masters", leading the whole school through games and English with tremendous energy. The banner said it plainly — 1st–5th graders take the challenge × 6th-grade English student teachers.
The stations covered plenty of ground. Younger classes tackled letters and letter sounds; middle grades put colours and prepositions to work in real situations; the older ones took on a quick-fire quiz about their own school. Across five stations the challenges ran from "Find Me! / What Color is it?" and "Add Me! / Turn My Wheel! / Let's Play About TJES!" to "I Can Count to 15 / Where Is It?", a Cup Stacking Game, and a team challenge in which every member held one string and the group had to stack wooden blocks together.
What Color is it?」、「Add Me! / Turn My Wheel! / Let's Play About TJES!」、「I Can Count to 15 / Where Is It?」,到疊杯遊戲 Cup Stacking Game,以及一關要全組每人各拉一條繩子、合力把積木疊起來的團隊挑戰。
Watching children across the whole school speak English with such confident smiles was genuinely moving. Our thanks to the English team for designing the activities, and above all to our library volunteers — your enthusiastic on-site support helped make the day a success.

Look at this — our school is on fire! The SDGs themed book fair was packed from the very first day.
This was not simply a room full of books; it was a lively playground for exploring. Walk into the exhibition area and you were met by enthusiastic teachers and classmates, stacks of interesting books, and display boards introducing the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The boards were hand-drawn by our own students — each one setting out a theme, the problem behind it and what we can actually do: clean water (SDG 6), affordable clean energy (SDG 7), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), climate action (SDG 13), life below water (SDG 14), life on land (SDG 15). A blackboard summed the whole thing up: our choices, the world's future.
Here we can learn what poverty, climate change and gender equality actually mean — and how, starting from our own daily lives, we can do our bit for the planet.
Come and join in! Visit the fair, take part in the hands-on activities, and you too can become a young champion of sustainability. And don't forget to share what you took away — so more people can see the effort we are making.
