Posture, breathing, diction, projection — the techniques your conductor talks about at every rehearsal.
Singing in a choir requires much more than a beautiful voice. Technique is everything. The first step is good posture: stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your back straight. Next, learn to breathe correctly. Choir singers breathe deeply from the diaphragm — the muscle below the lungs — so their voices are supported and powerful. Diction is also essential. Choir singers must articulate every word clearly so the audience understands the lyrics. Finally, singers must learn to project their voices — to direct the sound outward and fill the entire hall. Good technique takes practice, but every rehearsal makes you a stronger, more confident singer.
