In 2019, a very special friend came to Mingli Elementary School. His name was Grandpa Mike — Michael Dishnow (1943–2025), a retired American educator who loved Taiwan and loved children.2019 年,一位非常特別的朋友來到明禮國小,他就是麥克爺爺——Michael Dishnow(1943–2025),一位深愛台灣、也深愛孩子的美國退休教育工作者。
Grandpa Mike flew all the way to Taiwan at his own expense, again and again, to teach English in schools across Changhua County. Working hand in hand with My Culture Connect (人師教育協會) and the Changhua English Resource Center, he toured the whole county school by school. This is the day he came to us.
With his warm smile and gentle patience, Grandpa Mike gave our children something money cannot buy — the courage to open their mouths and speak English, and the joy of meeting a friend from the other side of the world. For many students, it was the very first time they had talked with someone from America.
Grandpa Mike passed away in 2025. We share this short film in loving memory of him — so that his kindness, and the laughter he brought to Mingli, will never be forgotten.
