The morning began in the bean fields of a local "diligent-farming" classroom. After tracing the life story of soy, black and edamame beans through a gentle picture book, the children stepped into the field itself — parting the plants, meeting a longhorn beetle in its armour, and finding the shy purple flowers of the self-pollinating soybean. Then they became little artisans, stirring and hand-pressing soy milk until it set in their palms. That first bite of "heavenly" fresh tofu taught the best lesson of all: the finest things are worth earning with time and effort.
Whether we face the earth or the universe, the world opens to those who dare to try.
In the afternoon the classroom moved to Beidou Junior High for a rigorous STEAM maker session. The children became optical engineers, carefully assembling astronomical telescopes — fine-tuning every part and lens, and in doing so building not just an object but a whole logic for looking at distant things. Outside, they trained their hand-built scopes on the world, met a real observatory telescope for the first time, and — through special filters — gazed at the true face of the sun, cheering out loud.
From the scent of the soil to the precision of an optical instrument, the day carried one lesson: whether we face the earth or the universe, as long as we are willing to roll up our sleeves and try, the world opens itself to us in its truest form.
