Grandpa Mike Came to Visit

Grandpa Mike — Michael Dishnow (1943–2025) — was a retired American educator who flew to Taiwan again and again, at his own expense, just to teach English to the children of Changhua. He worked hand in hand with My Culture Connect (人師教育協會) and the Changhua English Resource Center, and to the students who met him he was simply the kind grandpa from across the ocean. 麥克爺爺——Michael Dishnow（1943–2025）——是一位退休的美國教育工作者。他一次又一次自費飛來台灣，只為了教彰化的孩子英文。他與人師教育協會（My Culture Connect）和彰化縣英語教育資源中心攜手合作；對見過他的孩子來說，他就是那位來自海洋彼端、和藹可親的爺爺。

In 2019 he set out to tour the county school by school — and one of those stops was right here at Wanlai. He brought his warm smile, his patience, and a simple message every child could feel: that English is a door to the whole wide world, and that learning it can be fun. 2019 年，他展開一場走遍全縣、一所接著一所學校的拜訪之旅——其中一站，就在我們萬來。他帶來溫暖的笑容、滿滿的耐心，以及一個每個孩子都能感受到的訊息：英文是通往廣大世界的一扇門，而學英文可以很快樂。

What he gave the Wanlai children was more than vocabulary. He gave them the courage to open their mouths and try, the joy of being cheered on by someone who had come so far just for them, and the quiet lesson that kindness needs no translation. 他給萬來孩子的，遠不只是單字。他給了他們開口嘗試的勇氣，給了他們被一位遠道而來、只為他們而來的人鼓勵的喜悅，也給了他們一堂無聲的課——善良，不需要翻譯。
