Thanks to a special program from the Changhua County Cultural Affairs Bureau, and to Teacher Kaiwen for applying for the field-trip grant, our students got to walk straight out of their history textbooks and into the real thing — a hands-on visit to the Niupu archaeological site and its companion museum.
Face to face with replicas of prehistoric humans, ancient pottery shards embedded in an excavation wall, and exhibits on early rice farming, students traded their classroom desks for a museum floor and an actual dig site. It was history you could reach out and touch.
Museum plus dig site turned out to be the perfect learning pairing.
Stepping outside the classroom, students met the past up close — a day none of them will forget.
