Cundong Elementary sits on the eastern edge of Dacun Township — its name literally means "east of the village." We're built on the western foothills of the Bagua Plateau, with sweeping views down over Dacun and Yuanlin. To our east is open grassland; to our north, the Sanjiachun area of Huatan; to our south, Yuanlin City's Dongshan. Three villages — Fuxing, Pinghe, and Huangcuo — make up our school district.
本校位於大村鄉之東邊，因而得名村東國小。學校坐落於八卦山麓的台地上，景色優美，居高臨下鳥瞰大村、員林美景盡入眼簾。東面是廣大的丘陵地，青草如茵；北鄰花壇三家春，南接員林市東山。學區為福興、平和、黃厝三個村落。
For more than six decades, we've held to three commitments: character, reading, and ecology. Our Ten Drum troupe is a community favorite, our many clubs let every student find their strength, and a balanced education across body, mind, and character is what we work for every day.

After school, our campus opens as a community sports and reading center. We believe the school doesn't end at the gate.

More than ten years old, taught by Master Tu Ya-wen from the Tainan Ten Drum Cultural Village. In 2023 we placed first in the Changhua County music competition (percussion ensemble, elementary group), then earned National honors at the 2024 national finals.
Built from scratch in three years — no on-site coach, just two teachers (Mr. Yu and Mr. Chiang) who taught themselves from YouTube, bought unicycles out of pocket, and trained a new team. Champions of the County Magistrate's Cup in the middle-grade division.
Hawks overhead, bulbuls on the trees, butterflies, cicadas — Cundong is a working laboratory of biodiversity. We hold the Changhua County Sustainable Development · Sailing School certification and pursue the U.S.–Taiwan Eco Green Flag step by step.
Every Thursday, the whole school reads quietly together — teachers and students side by side. MSSR (Modeled Sustained Silent Reading) is how we build the lifelong habit of reading, and the courtyard library mural makes the practice impossible to forget.
In 2024 we won the Ministry of Education's expanded FET program — bringing Teacher Maelyn (Mae) De Torres Villano from the Philippines. The English program is literally named after her: A-mae-zing. Her teaching philosophy: learning by doing, having fun.
Our 5th-grade class writes in English to a partner class at Matheyum Watmai Krongtong School in Thailand. Self-introductions on Padlet, video exchanges about local festivals, live online meetings about favorite foods — international education without the airfare.
Over a decade ago, Cundong invited Master Tu Ya-wen from the Tainan Ten Drum Cultural Village to teach. Each year more students joined, and the troupe grew.

In November 2023, our students took the Changhua County music competition's elementary percussion-ensemble division — first place. In March 2024, representing the county at the national finals, we earned national honours in the elementary percussion-ensemble category.
2023 年 11 月於彰化縣 112 學年度學生音樂比賽榮獲國小團體組打擊樂第一名，2024 年 3 月代表彰化縣參加全國音樂比賽，於國小團體組打擊樂合奏項目獲全國優等。
For years, parents here had measured success only by grades. The troupe taught them — and us — that there are many ways for a child to shine. As the kids found their courage on stage, their parents found new ways to see them.

Three years ago, no one at Cundong knew how to ride a unicycle. There was no resident coach — just a two-hour weekly visit.
三年前村東連騎獨輪車的人都沒有，只靠每週兩小時教練到校。
So Mr. Yu Chun-ku and Mr. Chiang Tsun-ching, the teachers, decided to learn alongside the students. Mr. Yu bought unicycles with his own money. They studied competition videos online — basic skills first, then trick routines.

The first tournament: second place in the freestyle group. Two years later, the second-generation squad came home with the Magistrate's Cup middle-grade championship and the county overall middle-grade girls' title. Coach Chiang says unicycling helps the students focus — and he himself feels calmer because of it.

Our Culture Exchange Program is a meaningful collaboration between Cundong Elementary and Matheyum Watmai Krongtong School in Thailand. We work over Google Meet and Zoom, with sessions of 30 to 40 minutes scheduled to fit both schools.
The goal is simple — confident English speakers, cultural understanding, real friendships across borders. International education without the airfare, every week.
