Wang Chin-hung became principal of Nanzhen Elementary School on August 1, 2024, taking over from Principal Chiu Hsien-chang, who had led Nanzhen for eight years. Before coming to Nanzhen he was principal of Tianwei Elementary School, just down the road in the same township. He holds a master’s degree from the Graduate Institute of Education at National Chung Cheng University.
王錦鴻校長於 113 年 8 月 1 日接任南鎮國小校長，接棒領導南鎮八年的邱顯場校長。王校長先前擔任同鄉田尾國小校長，畢業於國立中正大學教育研究所碩士。
Principal Wang’s way of leading a school has won strong support from teachers, parents and students alike. He is warm and easy to talk to, and good at bringing people together — families, teachers and community volunteers. At Nanzhen he has led the teaching team in carrying on the school’s fine traditions while bringing in new ideas from the wider world of education.

In this episode of Voices in Education, Dom Jones of My Culture Connect visits Nanzhen and sits down with Principal Wang to talk about his path into education, why he chose to work with children, and how having a foreign English teacher on campus helps Nanzhen’s children learn English — and step out into the wider world.

Principal Wang sets great store by drawing out children’s potential. He believes that when primary-school children get the chance to take part in big — even international — competitions, they not only see more of the world but also taste a “peak experience” of success. In his earlier post he backed school sports and arts teams, such as tchoukball and competitive sport stacking, through funding difficulties all the way to competing abroad for Taiwan — and winning world titles.
王校長相當重視激發學生的潛能。他認為在小學階段若能讓孩子有機會參與大型甚至國際性賽事，除了增加見識，更能獲得成功的「高峰經驗」。在其過往任內，曾大力支持並帶領學校體育與藝能團隊（如巧固球隊、競技疊杯隊）突破經費困難，出國為台爭光、勇奪世界冠軍。
He works to give schools a comfortable place to read, in both spaces and resources — in a previous post, for example, he joined hands with the parents’ association to rebuild the library with a forest theme. And he encourages children to find their own strengths through many kinds of activities and cross-disciplinary learning.

Friendly and approachable, Principal Wang is good at gathering the strength of the local community and its volunteers. He brings the character of the area — Tianwei’s flowers and gardening, and its local temple culture — into school life, which livens up the ties between parents, teachers and students and deepens children’s sense of belonging to their hometown.

Nanzhen sits in Tianwei, the “home of flowers,” surrounded by gardens and farmland. Children explore the fields with all five senses and learn about local rice and flowers such as chrysanthemums and carnations — even making traditional puffed-rice treats (米香). Lessons also head out to spots around the school district, such as the 波波草 flower fields and the 旅人小屋 (Traveler’s Hut), for real-world, cross-disciplinary project learning.
南鎮位於「花的故鄉」田尾鄉，學區周邊圍繞著豐富的園藝栽種與農田景觀。課程引導孩子用五感探索田園之美，將稻米、花卉（如菊花、康乃馨）等在地產業納入課程，還能動手製作傳統米食（如米香），涵育愛鄉愛土的情懷；並結合學區內的特色景點（如波波草、旅人小屋等賞花秘境），在真實情境中進行跨領域與專題探究學習。
Through the national “a tablet for every student” program, Principal Wang has led the whole staff in digital training, weaving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, bilingual learning and technology into the school’s own courses — so that children in the countryside can think globally too. Building on the ISA International School Award, the school keeps growing cross-cultural communication and reading.

Principal Wang firmly believes in giving children a peak experience of success, and he fully supports Nanzhen’s long-standing strengths: a deep tradition in sport, with the tchoukball and track teams giving children a place to shine and grow in confidence; and in music, a record of eight straight years as county champions in both recorder ensemble categories.
