Nanzhen Elementary School sits in Tianwei Township, Changhua. Look out from our school and you see fields in every direction — farmland, flower nurseries and gardens. In Taiwan’s education terms we are a “neither mountain nor city” school (非山非市): not up in the hills, not in a town, but right in the heart of the farming plain.
南鎮國小位於彰化縣田尾鄉，學區放眼望去盡是農田，是一間美麗的鄉村小學，屬於「非山非市」學校。
We care about every child’s learning and all-round growth, and we build many different stages so that each child has a place to show what they can do. Our teaching team works with heart, always bringing fresh ideas into the classroom — and it shows: in reading, in music, on the sports field, and even at lunchtime.

Our school-based curriculum grows right out of the flower fields around us.
校本課程「綠野鮮蹤」，從學校周圍的花田裡長出來。
Nanzhen is just down the road from the Tianwei Highway Garden, and all around our school district people grow chrysanthemums, garden plants and farm crops. So when Taiwan’s new curriculum asked every school to design its own courses, ours took its name from the land: 綠野鮮蹤, “Green Fields, Fresh Tracks.” (It’s a play on 綠野仙蹤, the Chinese title of The Wizard of Oz — with “fairy” swapped for “fresh.”)
學校鄰近公路花園，學區內處處可見栽種菊花、園藝或農作物等，因此新課綱校本課程規劃以「綠野鮮蹤」為名來發展延伸課程。（名稱取自《綠野仙蹤》的諧音，把「仙」換成了新鮮的「鮮」。）
The course draws on everything that makes Tianwei the “Township of Flowers.” Children walk the flower fields, get to know plants and nature up close, and visit the farms and greenhouses of their own community — opening their eyes, deepening and widening their learning, and building real-world skills.
課程結合「花鄉」田尾的環境特色，帶領學生走讀花田、認識植物與大自然，走進社區的農場與溫室，打開孩子視野，加深加廣學習，增進素養能力。
Greenhouses, tomato vines and little pots of our own — in 綠野鮮蹤, the classroom stretches all the way out to the farms and flower fields of Tianwei.

Nanzhen’s teachers have earned recognition from the Ministry of Education for reading, and in the 2019–20 school year Nanzhen was the only school in Changhua to receive the ISA International School Award. In music, our recorder players won both the ensemble and small-ensemble county titles eight years in a row. And then there is lunch: Nanzhen’s school lunches are famous — our kitchen once took second place in a national school-chef competition, and the children look forward to lunchtime every day!
南鎮曾經獲得教育部閱讀三冠王的肯定，108 學年度更榮獲彰化縣唯一的 ISA 國際學校獎認證；音樂方面也有傑出的表現——連續八年榮獲彰化縣直笛合奏與重奏雙冠軍。此外，南鎮的營養午餐更是享譽全國，曾榮獲全國校廚競賽第二名殊榮，孩子們每天都很期待在學校享用午餐喔！
In tchoukball, players throw the ball at a small rebound net and the other team tries to catch it on the bounce — fast, full of teamwork, and with no body contact allowed. Together with our track team, it has long given Nanzhen children a different kind of applause.
巧固球是把球射向彈網、由對方搶接反彈球的運動，節奏快、講究團隊合作，而且不允許身體碰撞。巧固球隊與田徑隊，一直是南鎮最有傳統的特色教育，給孩子另一方面的掌聲與肯定。

One late-spring day in 2020, the kapok trees let go of their fluffy seeds and the whole playing field turned white — Nanzhen’s very own kapok snow.
