What Erlin Township is famous for 特色
Erlin is Changhua's largest urban township by area and its emerging wine country. Several boutique wineries (酒莊) produce table wines from local grapes. Erlin was the site of the 1925 Erlin Incident (二林事件), an early colonial-era farmers' movement that shaped Taiwanese labor history. Asparagus (蘆筍) cultivation is a local specialty.

Taiwan's First Farmers' Protest台灣首次農民抗爭
The 1925 Erlin Incident was one of Taiwan's first organized farmers' labor protests against Japanese sugar companies. Farmers demanded fair prices for their sugarcane and better working conditions, sparking a movement that inspired future generations of labor activists across Taiwan.
White Asparagus — Taiwan Rarity台灣稀有白蘆筍
The area grows white asparagus — a rarity in Taiwan — alongside the more common green variety. White asparagus is grown underground to keep it from turning green in sunlight, giving it a milder, more tender flavor. Erlin's asparagus is prized in local restaurants and markets.
Lychee-Scented Local Wine荔枝香氣在地葡萄酒
Local wineries age wine in both barrel and tank; the local Kyoho grape wine has distinct lychee notes. The Kyoho (巨峰) grape is a large, sweet variety popular in East Asia, and Erlin's winemakers have developed techniques that highlight its unique tropical fragrance in the finished wine.
Bordering Yunlin by River以濁水溪與雲林為界
Erlin borders Yunlin County to the south along the Zhuoshui River. The Zhuoshui River is the longest river in Taiwan and forms a natural boundary between central and southern Taiwan. Its rich alluvial soil has long supported the farming communities on both sides of the river.
Name from Aboriginal Village地名源自原住民村落
The name Erlin comes from an Aboriginal Pazeh village name (二林社). The Pazeh people were one of the Taiwanese plains indigenous groups (平埔族) who inhabited this area before Han Chinese settlers arrived. Their village name was preserved in the Chinese place name still used today.
Lowest Density Urban Township城鎮中人口密度最低
The township has the lowest population density among Changhua's urban townships despite its large area. Although Erlin is classified as an urban township (鎮), much of its 68 km² remains agricultural land. This gives it a distinctly rural feel compared to other townships with the same administrative status.
