麥克爺爺一次又一次飛越太平洋，只為走進台灣的教室，陪孩子開口說英語。
Grandpa Mike — Michael Dishnow — was a retired American educator who had served as a school counselor and principal. He learned Chinese, he loved Taiwan, and before the pandemic he flew here five times at his own expense, walking into classrooms across Changhua, Penghu and beyond to teach English in the warmest, gentlest way.
麥克爺爺（Michael Dishnow）是一位來自美國的退休教育工作者，曾任學校輔導老師與校長。他學中文、愛台灣，疫情前五度自費飛來，走進彰化、澎湖與各地的校園，用最溫暖的英語陪孩子認識自己的家鄉。
He began more than a decade ago, teaching English by video call — back when there were only about six foreign teachers in all of Changhua. Every Lunar New Year he mailed handwritten calligraphy and cards; over the years he sent T-shirts, cards and pens printed "Learn English with Grandpa Mike," and wrote articles urging Americans to come and volunteer in Taiwan.
他十多年前從視訊英語教學起步——當時全彰化僅約六名外師。每年農曆新年寄來親筆書法與卡片；十年間寄送印著「Learn English with Grandpa Mike」的 T 恤、卡片與筆，並撰文號召美國人來台志工服務。
Through the Eyes of Grandpa Mike is his record of Taiwan — school by school, landmark by landmark, from Dongxi and Changxing to Penghu and the Buddha Museum. Even in old age, back home in the U.S., he kept learning Chinese from CDs, writing characters, practicing calligraphy — writing his love for Taiwan into brushstrokes, and onto sky lanterns.
《Through the Eyes of Grandpa Mike》是他一集一集走訪台灣校園與景點的紀錄——從東溪、彰興到澎湖、佛光山。年紀大了，他在美國仍聽著 CD 學中文、寫國字、練書法，把對台灣的愛一筆一畫寫進書法、寫上天燈。
"Grandpa Mike kept learning a new language well into his old age. We should learn from his spirit — open your mouth and speak English, and don't be afraid." 「麥克爺爺年紀一大把還努力學新的語言，我們要學他的精神——開口說英語，不要怕。」
He taught English — but he taught love first. Every child felt it.
He met every child, every teacher, every small town with the same respect.
"Don't be afraid. Open your mouth and try." His lifelong lesson.
One person, doing good again and again, can change many young lives.

Classrooms, stages, sky lanterns, and a kitchen full of laughter. 教室、舞台、天燈，還有滿是笑聲的廚房。
Under the "International Video English Teaching Program" run jointly by the Changhua English Resource Center and My Culture Connect (人師教育協會), Michael Dishnow — "Grandpa Mike," who had taken part for five years running — was invited back to Taiwan. On the afternoon of November 7, Changhua County Magistrate Wang Huei-mei visited Changxing Junior High together with Grandpa Mike, chatting with students about food culture East and West and finding their favorite Changhua foods through an online vote.
由彰化縣英語資源中心與彰化縣人師教育協會合作推動的「國際視訊英語教學實施計畫」，邀請連續參與五年、人稱「麥克爺爺」的 Michael Dishnow 來台。11 月 7 日下午，彰化縣長王惠美與麥克爺爺一同走訪彰興國中，與學生暢談中西飲食文化，並透過線上票選找出學生最愛的彰化美食。
The day happened to be Grandpa Mike's 76th birthday. The school prepared both a Western-style cake and traditional longevity peach buns, inviting all the November birthday students to celebrate together — the room warm with joy.
"Grandpa Mike has cared for our children for years, visiting many schools each time he comes to Taiwan. Over five years, through Changhua's international video English program, he has given the children so much — and helped their English improve enormously." — Wang Huei-mei, Magistrate of Changhua County
Over the years, Grandpa Mike visited more than 150 schools and served over 750 students, offering warmth and encouragement through the screen, and opening a window onto English communication, a global outlook, and cross-cultural understanding.
麥克爺爺累計走訪超過 150 所學校、服務 750 位以上的學生，透過視訊互動給予孩子溫暖與鼓勵，也為孩子打開英語溝通能力、國際視野與跨文化素養的一扇窗。
